The centre was created in 1971, through an agreement made by the heirs of Blondel and the Autorités of the Université catholique de Louvain, thanks to the efforts of Claude Troisfontaines. The heirs granted to the Centre Blondel’s office, his library (about 200 books and 500 volumes of journals) and his manuscripts (about 50,000 pages). In 1977 and 1983, parts of his correspondence were donated as well.
