Johann Gottfried Herder

The sale catalogue compiled on the death of Herder consists of a continuous succession of 7320 descriptions (with a gap of 10 numbers between section no. 2 and section no. 3), organized in 5 sections: Libri theologici (nos. 1-1591), Libri philologici (nos. 1592-2892), Libri philosophici (nos. 2903-4760), Libri Juridici (nos. 4761-5018), Libri literarum et artium liberaliorum recentioris aevi (nos. 5019-7320). There follows part of the Libri incompacti e collati with a new enumeration (nos. 1-381), an appendix with new and separated enumerations of books (nos. 1-172), of geographical maps (nos. 1-46) and of art objects (nos. 1-16).
The catalogue is preceded by a short preface (dated Weimar, 28 August 1804) in which there is information, in addition to the sales procedures, of the existence of an abstract in possession of the Herder family that would include those titles missing in the printed catalogue. The preface states that the order of the catalogue is the same established by Herder.
